Biography of Deborah Mattinson After graduating in Law from Bristol University, Deborah joined McCann-Erickson Advertising as a graduate trainee, where she worked on campaigns for Beecham, Nestlé, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Del Monte, and the Eggs Authority. She also managed the Agency's pan-European new business drive. In 1983 she joined Ayer Barker as Account/Planning Director on Chanel, ICI and Economic Laboratories. Around this time, she began advising the Labour Party on research and communications as a volunteer. In 1985 she set up Gould Mattinson with Philip Gould, and became full time co-ordinator of the Labour Party's Shadow Communications Agency, advising the Labour Party on all aspects of campaigning, including logo redesign, Party Political Broadcasts, PR, advertising and speech drafting. She maintained this role throughout the 1987 Election, and following that, began to focus more on qualitative and quantitative polling, providing key input to the Policy Review that took place between 1987 and 1992. She also established GMA Monitor, conducting social and political research for commercial and public sector organisations Including the TUC, Greenpeace. Liberty, the European Parliament and many local authorities. She ran the Labour Party's private polling throughout the 1992 Election. Also in 1992, she co-founded Opinion Leader Research, specialising in market research amongst opinion leaders (politicians, media, city, government), and social and political research. In particular, OLR has been responsible for pioneering new forms of public consultation. This has included work on Customer Panels, extended focus groups, and Citizens' Juries. Clients include Andersen Consulting, ST, BBC, COI, the Economic and Social Research Council, Esso, the FT, Greenpeace, the IPPR, IBM, the Labour Party, Nestlé, North West Water, the RSA, and Saatchi and Saatchi.
